Night of the Living Dead
By Matt Steflik
You can use the glow zombies and the shotgun guys from two base sets to play "Night of the Living Dead" Tablut (or "Zombie" Hnefatafl, if you prefer). Here's a link to view board setup and rules for Tablut just in case you have no idea what I'm talking about: http://www.expomedia.se/tablut/eng/object.htm
The board is easy enough to cobble up. Its just a 9x9 grid (each square about an inch), with the 4 corners and center square marked a different color. The board represents the farmhouse, just as it is overrun by a horde of the undead. Setup of pieces is just like regular Tablut. Replace the black pieces with the zombies, and replace the white pieces with "survivors" (shotgun guys); two each of red (Tom and Judy Rose), green (Harry and Helen), black (Ben and um...Johnny I guess...okay, so in this game he made it to the house alive) and blue (Harry's daughter and...ah...Uncle Reg...sure...he's not dead yet either) with one yellow for the "king" (or rather "Queen" Barbara). The "throne" space is now "the basement". The object of winning for the survivor player is to get Barbara out of the zombie beleaguered farmhouse to safety through one of the corner squares. The zombies are, of course, "coming to get you, Barbara". If they succeed, the zombie player wins.
For an even more zombie intense game (and to use even more of those great zombie figures), you can add the the rule that when the zombie player captures a survivor, roll a d6. If the result is a 4-6, the captured shotgun guy is replaced with a zombie instead of being removed from the board. Sporting? No. Fun? Hell, yes.
Give it a try - its pretty cool.
